Service Providers, or lack of…

Service Providers, or lack...

I deal with alot of different service providers in my job, from all over the globe. It still shocks me to see that a large number of british providers have a complete lack of understanding in what the word “service” means. Its all very well to configure a service for you, even keep it running most of the time, but you really get the jist of a provider and what they are about when something...
Something you don’t see every day

Something you don’t ...

Prince Charles certainly does his thing for Britains armed forces… No wonder mummy won’t let him be king!
Probation Period

Probation Period...

Well, I left the comfort of my last employer almost 3 months to the day.  My probation period with my new employer will be up on Monday.  If the others here are anything to go by, i’ll be here for quite some months to come! Of course, that all depends on how my 3 month review goes
Great Domains?!

IPv6 Addressing

IPv6 Addressing...

So, since IPv4 address space is running out, its the done thing to start looking into IPv6.  Its a complete head fuck, but I think i’m finally getting there.  So I recently aquired  a /32 of IPv6 space from RIPE for my employer.  I think thats around 1.8 Trillion addresses, so I doub’t we’ll run out at any time soon. So next to start looking at integrating IPv6 into the core bits...
RIPE, ARIN and APNIC

RIPE, ARIN and APNIC...

Ok, so I managed a RIPE Lir in my previous job. Thats complicated enough, now im involved in managing ARIN and APNIC aswell. Nightmare! Just in the process of getting a new allocation from RIPE which has been fairly easy since we are an LIR, however, I feel more hoops will need to be jumped through to satisfy ARIN we need some additional space…
New Horizons

New Horizons...

Well, my notice period at my current employer ended today.  Was cool to get the notice period over as its always a little dull handing things over and not really working on anything new, but I was working with a great team and will certainly miss working with the vast majority of them. So, Monday morning takes me back to being the new boy again.  MUCH bigger company this time, MUCH bigger network...
Quick Update

Quick Update...

Thought id write something quickly on here since I haven’t done for a while.  Just had a cracking week off, was very nice to get away from the office for a bit and not think about computers and the internet.  Back to work on Monday however, for my last three weeks as I’m making the move to pastures new…  something a little closer to home!
Snow… Still

Snow… Still...

Well the snow is still here and we are forcast for more over night.  This should make tomorrow fun as its been raining for most of the day.  I’m sure we’ll have plenty of ice on the roads.  Although, some good news as those nice folks in Cornwall have given Gloucestershire County Council 550 Tonnes of salt to spread on our roads…  with another 500 being delivered this week. Fingers...
Gloucestershire County Council FAIL

Gloucestershire County Cou...

Well.  I think the whole country is in the same position at the moment, but here is my 10p worth.  Tried to get into work this morning, two different ways out of Cheltenham on roads the Gloucestershire County Council website claimed were being gritted…  FAIL.  What a load of bollox to be honest.  The only gritter I saw was on the M5 southbound, and he spent most of his time ploughing snow...
